The Dieppe-Pourville Golf Course, rated 3* by GolfStars is an 18-hole seaside course located in the city center, established in 1897. Its PAR 70 course spans 5695 meters and has been open since 1897 in Dieppe (76 - Seine-Maritime). As the sixth golf course built in France, the Dieppe-Pourville Golf Course holds the distinction of being the first and oldest golf course in Normandy.
The par 5 of the 16th hole offers stunning views of the white cliffs of Varengeville and the beach of Pourville. Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, and Camille Pissarro were drawn to the area by the changing reflections of the beautiful Alabaster Coast.
Initially considered a links course, its clay-limestone soil and planted trees mean it cannot be classified as a true links course in the historical sense. The original 9-hole Top of the Cliff course was attributed to Lord Salisbury, Prime Minister of Queen Victoria. However, successive wars led to the reduction of the course from 27 holes in 1911; nonetheless, the greens of the 5th and 17th holes remain century-old, and the entire course is situated far from the erosion of the cliffs.
With its casino, sea baths (established by Caroline de Bourbon in 1822), tennis courts, and racecourse, Dieppe became a holiday destination for our neighbors across the Channel. "The only thing missing is golf..." was undoubtedly the most common sentiment at the time, expressed in English, of course.
Message from the golf course:
An exacting and varied course designed by Willie Park, it was created in 1897, under the influence of the British colony enamored with the city's four ports. The Dieppe Golf Course is the eldest among Norman golf courses and the seventh oldest course in France.
Located between the towns of Dieppe and Pourville-sur-Mer, the course offers breathtaking views of the white cliffs of the Alabaster Coast, famously painted by Monet, Braque, etc.
The Dieppe Golf Course, mindful of its biodiversity, has been awarded the "Bronze Biodiversity Label" and has also installed beehives and birdhouses in 2023. It offers an exceptional panorama with enchanting plays of light between sky and earth. Depending on the weather and winds, you can feel the sea spray with the tides and enjoy the excellent services of its restaurant, "l'Albatros". Pro shop and covered practice facilities are available.
